Before Christmas, International Tuesday is all about food and alternative protein sources.
A third of the world’s population in Asia and Africa eat insects every day. For us Europeans, this idea is (still) strange. Why is that? Once upon a time, insects were collected daily. For the Greeks and Romans, grasshoppers, beetle larvae and cicadas were considered luxury items. Why do we consider insects rather „unappetizing“? To meet the increasing demand for animal protein, can we Europeans learn from other countries and change our eating habits? The nutritionist Dr. Ina Henkel researches insects as food and will answer questions in an interview.

The artistic framework is provided by fables on the theme of „food“, musically accompanied by Christiane Gerhardt (viola da gamba) and Berus Nezhad (santoor, setar and percussion). For a long time, both have been concerned with the cultural interplay between Orient and Occident.
We hear fables from the Persian collection Kalīla wa Dimna and fables by Jean de La Fontaine. The music was arranged according to European baroque music and pieces of music of Persian and Turkish origin. The influence and significance of these enchanting works for music and literature are great.

Vor dem Weihnachtsfest dreht sich der International Tuesday um das Thema Lebensmittel und alternative Proteinquellen.
Ein Drittel der Weltbevölkerung in Asien und Afrika essen täglich Insekten. Uns Europäern ist dieser Gedanke (noch) fremd. Warum eigentlich? Einstmals wurden Insekten täglich gesammelt. Bei den Griechen und Römern galten Heuschrecken, Käferlarven und Zikaden als Luxusartikel. Warum betrachten wir Insekten als eher „unappetitlich“? Um den steigenden Bedarf an tierischem Eiweiß zu decken, können wir Europäer von anderen Ländern lernen und unsere Ernährungsgewohnheiten ändern? Die Ernährungswissenschaftlerin Dr. Ina Henkel forscht zu dem Nahrungsmittel Insekten und wird im Interview diese und weitere Fragen beantworten.
Außerdem erwarten wir weitere Gäste. Zu Gast ist außerdem Christina Klüppel, Botschafterin foodsharing Potsdam – https://foodsharing.de/ Wir erfahren, welche Lebensmittel am Vortag gerettet werden konnten, und bereiten damit einen kleinen Imbiss vor.
Den künstlerischen Rahmen bilden Fabeln zum Thema „Food“, musikalisch begleitet von Christiane Gerhardt (Viola da Gamba) und Berus Nezhad (Santur, Setar und Percussion). Seit langem beschäftigen sich beide mit dem kulturellen Zusammenspiel zwischen Orient und Okzident.
Wir hören Fabeln aus der persischen Sammlung Kalīla wa Dimna und Fabeln von Jean de La Fontaine Die Musik wurde nach Vorlagen europäischer Barockmusik und Musikstücken persischer sowie türkischer Herkunft arrangiert.
